Producer Profile
Inspired by Spain’s largely untapped fine wine resources, friends, colleagues and Masters of Wine, Fergal Tynan and Giles Cooke set off on a journey to find the unsung heroes of Spain, be they regions, growers or winemakers. Fergal’s interest in wine terroirs and Giles’ instincts for flavour, led them to unearth great Spanish wines whose stories were untold. Mago y Granjero represents their discoveries – each wine is the result of a long journey. Each wine is hand made. Each wine reflects the personality of the land and the subtle imprint of man in varying degrees.
Viticulture
Vineyards are grown on the plains surround the town of Manzanares in La Mancha where there is a number of varying soil types. These range from deep clay loams with good drainage through to some very stony soils with a break down of granites, giving quite differing flavour profiles. These offer raspberry and soft cherry spice with some of the smaller bush vine parcels giving an almost cinnamon and black pepper character. The vineyards are a mixture of low trellised vines on wires and a number of vineyards that are traditional bush vines with lower yields and more flavour concentration.
Winemaking
We select low yielding vineyards and ripe fruit to create a wine suitable for any occasion. The vineyards are closely monitored so grapes are picked at their best and the state of the art winery is well equipped with the most modern winemaking machinery to create fantastic wines. Stainless steel tanks for fermentation, cold stabilisation and bottled to order to retain freshness and vibrancy.
Oak Treatment
No oak treatment.
