Producer Profile
Bodegas Bastida is a traditional family run wine cellar, starting in the 1950’s when Antonio Bastida built a small winery and established the vineyards, which eventually passed to Juan Juliá Bastida, son of Antonio, who created a new winery in Abarán in 1977.
Viticulture
Vineyards are in the region of Mediterranean Spain around Alicante, which has an extreme continental climate with large temperature fluctuations and little in the way of rain in the summer months. Mostly limestone soils with some clay that retain moisture make the optimum environment for the vines to thrive in.
Winemaking
Harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel.
Oak Treatment
No oak treatment.
Tasting Note
Lela taught us all how to enjoy Mediterranean Spain, the beaches, the restaurants, the nightspots, the wine and of course how to play dominoes. Full of sunshine, soft and rounded. An easy red wine from indigenous Spanish grape varieties which is intense in colour with complex aromas of roasted fruits, cacao and spices. Great amplitude on the palate, very persistent and balanced.
Food Matching
Red and white meats.
